It’s the season for winter holidays, and while this brings many opportunities for fun, it can also cause unnecessary plastic waste. According to Stanford University, “Americans throw out 25% more trash during the Thanksgiving to New Year’s holiday than any than any other time of year. The extra waste amounts to 25 million tons of garbage,” and we don’t want any of that going into the ocean. Here are some ways that you can enjoy the holiday season while helping to keep the ocean safe for the Shore Buddies! ♻️💙🐢🐬

More Ways to celebrate plastic free this Holiday *When sharing holiday cookies, try to use reusable plates instead of disposable plastic. If you’re having a holiday party, make sure that it is easy for your guests to recycle, or use plates, glasses, and utensils that can be washed and reused when you are finished eating. *Instead of sending cards in the mail, which can create plastic waste, go online and send e-greetings to family and friends. *When you wrap your gifts, skip the plastic bows and tie on some reusable cloth ribbons instead. Instead of wrapping paper, reuse something you already have, such as old posters, comics, colorful shopping bags, or old maps, or place the gift in a reusable cloth bag.
