Shore Buddies Wisdom Wednesday
Coral reefs are home to more than 25% of marine life. Because of so much plastic in our oceans, it’s no surprise that more than 50% of sea turtles have consumed plastic. Aside from marine animals dying from ingesting plastics because they can’t break it down, plastics damage coral as well. A coral becoming diseased increases from 4% to 89% after coming into contact with plastic. It damages the skin of coral, which allows for infection to set in.
