Did you know there are three types of reefs? Barrier reefs, fringing reefs, and atolls. Atolls often get mistaken for islands when it is really a reef. They are very island like and grow on outer edges of lagoons. Fringing reefs are called that by being arranged in a fringe around the shallow waters. Barrier reefs are further from the shore and in deeper waters than fringing reefs.
